Asbestos only subject that needs transparency. The EPA’s current effort to restrict the use of coal in the generation of electricity will have a disastrous impact on Georgia’s economy. If adopted in their current form, EPA’s proposed regulations will essentially prohibit construction of new coal-fired power plants, restricting America’s electricity production, particularly in states like Georgia which relies heavily on coal-fired plants. It will have devastating effects on economic growth, job production and the ability to attract new investment to the state, particularly in the critical manufacturing sector. With “back shoring” - the trend to return manufacturing to the United States due to automation, lower energy costs and other cost-effective manufacturing innovations – accelerating, this new regulation could not come at a more inopportune time. Georgians should make our concerns about this regulatory mistake to the EPA and the Obama administration in order to cause EPA to rethink its regulatory stance.

After seeing what the current Party is compared to what I recall it to have been 20 years ago...what I took away from my short return before campaign season 2012 was that there are too many folks with a misperception of their worth, importance and with this terrible..."I'm a better Republican that You."

Mass Precinct Meetings filled with jackboot rednecks that never participated before...but turned into Delegates on the spot while those that have put in their time were turned away via a "Point System." As I recall...in my days with Pointevint, the Mass Precinct Meetings were Party Building soirees to bring any and all members of society that wanted to participate into the fold. People actually paid to attend at the door and then were told that they were not allowed to participate because they hadn't earned points to be an alternate or delegate.

I think there is much too much time spent on disenfranchising up and coming GOP members by putting them in categories or sorting them out by those that they have for friends. By culling out the herd every time there is a campaign season coming up...or county/district party convention looming in, the return on the investment will always run into the nega-numbers. Conning YRs to do the grunt stuff and then tossing them under the bus when it's their time to take control is obviously killing the incentive of many to belong to Grandpops Old Party.

When the new wave Republicans have been disenfranchised for the last time...it will be pretty obvious that the elders of the GOP need the New Wave Republicans a lot more than the New Wave Republican will ever need the elders of the GOP. At that point, the GOP can start to toddle off to the Elephants Graveyard and/or the tar pits as they're no longer relevant.

I don't see the Party pulling out of this tail spin. You guys are probably better off than being the fall guy at the helm when it all goes away.

Ms. Perspicacious.... Very astute observations of the political "community". I would add to your overall analysis of the process of determining the "bad-news-bears" characters that it is during periods like the past couple of months that your analysis is overloaded with significant data to make this determination. And even more so when you yourself are a candidate.

Many new friends are made during these events/cycles and much new information is gleaned regarding your "old" friends.

Cheers! And glad to be able to call you one of my new friends!

Background information would be helpful if you're not familiar with Mr. Pond's case and you haven't heard of the similar but even more deplorable actions that culminated with Andrew Wordes' death. You can find these stories on the Internet.

I'll just give you the bottom line: This is about food rights, economic survival, a few pet hens - no crowing roosters, no meat processing operation - and the ability of a neighbor to tap into her good ol' boy (or girl, in this case) network to deny Mr. Pond the aforementioned liberties. Throw a few bucks into the fund for legal representation and an appeal, if you are able.

I agree & thank you for this article! :) I'd just add though, that the East Cobb Civic Association, an alliance of HOA's, obviously has the power behind the scenes in East Cobb. Joseph's house is not even in an HOA, he had the support of a majority of his adjacent neighbors, and yet testimony by two members of the ECCA caused the gavel to come down on his application for a variance without any chance at rebuttal to their speeches to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Every other applicant had multiple chances at rebuttal and question/answer time with the BZA, but the Joseph's was denied immediately upon hearing the ECCA's speeches. A few months ago, Commissioner Lee let it slip that the goal is to get every neighborhood under an HOA and the same standardized HOA regulations for each, so that East Cobb can be completely controlled by an unelected "elite" group of people who form the Board of the ECCA - to see just how much power the ECCA asserts over Cobb politics, visit their own webapge (East Cobb Civic Association) for a description of what they are all about. The ECCA Board actually states that it does not first take a vote of members before stating a public opinion on Variance Requests. A "case manager" is assigned by the ECCA to every variance request in East Cobb, and then a board member makes the type of public statement at the variance hearing as we saw at Joseph's hearing, regardless of whether or not the applicant is even currently living in an HOA neighborhood! (Joseph does not) The move in govt today at all levels is a move away from representative govt, and we can see this for sure in East Cobb when it comes to private property rights.
